As a member of our core team, the candidate will play an integral part in ForeQast’s Logistics Technologies by contributing to the planning and successful implementation of new techniques in different modules of our product.

About ForeQast 

ForeQast is an intelligent logistics platform based on real-world data and quantum-hybrid technology. We are a start-up based in Waterloo developing a software product to leverage quantum technology to bring solutions to the logistics industry and to enhance the efficiency of logistics planning. 

About the position

ForeQast seeks exceptional Ph.D. students, and Postdoctoral fellows in Canada or USA for joining the company's core technical team full-time or part-time based on their experience and ambitions. If you are in Canada, at least 6-month long paid internship positions (starting from June/July 2022) at the University of Waterloo or Perimeter institute and jointly with ForeQast Technologies are available. Exceptional Master’s students may also be considered. You will be one of the key developers in projects that focus on building and testing quantum algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems, specifically, vehicle routing problems with capacity and time window constraints, and benchmarking them against industry-standard solutions. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Building and testing quantum optimization algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems such as vehicle routing and scheduling.
  • Apply Mathematical optimization techniques, including Linear Programming, Integer Programming, and graph optimization algorithms to design optimal or near-optimal solution methodologies.
  • Benchmarking results against the industry-standard solutions.
  • Preparing written reports.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. student or Postdoc in quantum computing or combinatorics who has worked with quantum optimization tools.
  • A strong track record in graduate-level research projects.
  • Strong problem solving and data analysis skills.
  • Expertise in developing quantum optimization algorithms.
  • Experience with D-Wave BQM and CQM solvers and application of QAOA algorithms.
  • Familiarity with constrained vehicle routing problem.
  • Proficiency in programming in python and comfortable with Git.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Xanadu PennyLane platform.
  • Familiarity with Qiskit.
  • Experience with MIP solvers such as C-PLEX and GUROBI.
  • Experience with scheduling and routing optimization problems.
